Boulton & Watt

Description

This stylish, sprawling gastropub has steampunk design touches, including salvaged parts of an antique steam engine—a tribute to Industrial Revolution heavies Matthew Boulton and James Watt, for whom the space is named. The menu updates throwbacks like pigs in a blanket (using housemade sausage and curried ketchup), mac and cheese (with white cheddar and parsley-and-garlic bread crumbs) and pickled produce (pineapple with habanero chiles, mint and basil, for instance). Since drinking is a prime focus here—excellent cocktails; draft beer; interesting, not-expensive wines—it's good that there are substantial items to help soak it up: beef burgers, veggie burgers, organic chicken pot pie, beer-battered cod with chips. Everything is made with flair.
