Joe’s Steam Rice Roll
Description
It’s worth waiting here as a chef prepares a rice roll before your eyes—steaming freshly milled rice batter on a sheet pan before rolling it up with a choice of fillings: beef, pork, shrimp and add-ons like scallions, egg or bean sprouts. Your patience pays off with your first bite. The delicate rolls are a filling, cheap snack, made even better with the addition of soy sauce or chili oil. Owner Joe Rong began the Cantonese concept in Flushing and opened this stall in the Canal Street Market to introduce it to a wider audience.
