Taverna Kyclades

Description

Befitting Greek tradition, Taverna Kyclades supplies the classics: grilled octopus with lemon and olive oil, pan-fried cheese, big salads and whole fish, simply prepared. This Astoria gem, known for quality, value and professional hospitality, is perpetually packed, its sidewalk tables and trellised patio especially alluring. Owners Caterina and Ardian Skenderi opened a second (and equally popular) location in the East Village (228 First Ave., 212-432-0011) in 2013. On the Greek-focused wine list pay attention to varietals from Santorini, a rising star in the Cyclades (pronounced with a hard ‘k’ and sometimes spelled Kikladhes or Kyclades) islands. Or go the cheaper route and order perfectly drinkable house wine by the carafe.
