Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
Description
Alvin Ailey changed the perception of American dance when he founded his groundbreaking company in 1958. Today the organization offers performances by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Ailey II, training at The Ailey School, and education and community programs that use the American modern dance tradition and beauty of the African American heritage and other cultures to enlighten, unite, and inspire all. With “real classes for real people,” the Ailey Extension program makes dance and fitness accessible to all online and in-studio at Ailey’s home—the Joan Weill Center for Dance—New York’s largest building dedicated to dance.
