2021 Tribeca Film Festival Opening Night

The premiere of In The Heights will kick off the in-person 2021 Tribeca Film Festival on June 9. In an homage to the film’s setting, the screening will take place at United Palace Theater in Washington Heights and will be shown simultaneously at various outdoor screens across the five boroughs. The highly anticipated adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical of the same name features music by Miranda, who also produced and appears in the film, and stars Anthony Ramos, best known for his work in Hamilton, as bodega owner Usnavi. Valentina of Drag Race fame and Marc Anthony also have cameos. The film looks at the lives of a cast of characters living in the close-knit neighborhood of Washington Heights, with Usnavi at the center. Usnavi dreams of reopening his parents' restaurant in his native Dominican Republic, while pining for the girl who works next door at a beauty salon. Ultimately, Usnavi and the residents of Washington Heights are led to discover the true meaning of home.

The Tribeca Film festival will take place from June 9 through June 20, with screenings held at Brookfield Place, the Pier 57 Rooftop, The Battery and Hudson Yards in Manhattan; the Empire Outlets on Staten Island; and MetroTech Commons in Brooklyn.
