Description

Dinosaur, whose name comes from both the pigeon’s ancestors and the sculpture’s scale, is a hyperrealistic, hand-painted sculpture of a pigeon that hovers some 20 feet above the High Line Spur. The sculpture is meant to comment on the City’s evolution, its relationship with the natural world and the parallels between its status as a city of immigrants and the arrival of pigeons from Europe in the 1800s. Perhaps more than anything, it serves as an homage to the bird that become an unofficial symbol of NYC.
